Low Cost Bidder Always Mean Savings

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

Whether you’re a Procurement Manager, a Cost Reduction Firm or a CFO, you should always chase after the lowest cost, right? Not necessarily! There’s so much more to procurement than lowest product or service cost. Every organization has unique needs and what works for one group may not be ideal for another.

Take a category as seemingly innocent as Office Supplies. Expense Consulting recently helped an organization consolidate their office supplies vendors. In this particular instance, the client’s “new” vendor was actually one of their incumbent vendors. However, the transition was anything but smooth. Users were told they received new login credentials but the emails never came. One user wanted two different ship-tos and she was told by customer service to call in her orders. Although Expense Consulting was there to make the process seamless and to ensure every small problem was fixed, it still took significant effort to initialize the new location.

Regardless of the category, there are many vendors who will promise low costs, but not guarantee a minimum level of service. So what good is a lower price if all of your savings are consumed by inefficiencies? That’s why it is critical to understand any potential vendor’s capabilities up-front. Expense Consulting helps organizations sort it all out.
